Deafening

Stand by me is a film about four kids who walk into the wild to look for the body of a missing child, who is the same age as them. It is a story of coming of age and starting to figure out how the world works. This fanfic, "Deafening" is about the two central characters of the story, Gordie and Chris, both of which have a hard start to life. Gordie's older brother died before the time line of the film begins and Chris was raised in an abusive house hold.

"Deafening" is good description of the understanding Chris has of his best friend Gordie. Like many little brothers, Gordie viewed his brother Denny as being god like. He wasn't out to please anybody but Denny, Denny never put him down or ignored him or dismissed him. "Deafening" shows how Chris my have felt about he and Gordie's up bringings. He could be physically hurt by his father but in comparison to Gordie, his pain paled into insignificance. Chris' pain could be cured as soon as he was old enough to leave home. But, Gordie's could never and would never be stopped. The only thing i didn't like was the use of the world "like" to begin describing the intensity of a feeling.
